Im Auftrag des Jenseits

Documentary essay film about life and death.

„Im Auftrag des Jenseits“ (on behalf of the hereafter) by Florian Höllerl and Patrick Spanbauer is a film essay on the subject of life and death.
It depicts a group of people who deal with death on a daily basis and the effect it develops on their own conception of life.

Beginning with the staff members of a rest home, and ranging from autopsy assistants and undertakers to the interior decorator of a burial museum, a consciousness researcher, and the famous Swiss artist, film designer and Oscar winner H. R. Gigerbeim, we get different approaches to the subject of death.
The conversations with these individuals reveal death as a reality tied to life in the deepest sense. That makes conversations about death become conversations about life and, likewise, this film about death becomes a film about life.

Just like life, „Im Auftrag des Jenseits“ is a constant approach to an unknown, or rather, to an unknown time X.

Withdrawn from a hasty everyday culture, the film represents a counterpoint to the ordinary rhythm of modern, urban life, without falling into the illusion that it is possible to afford definite statements and answers to this topic. Only an approximation and the development of consciousness is possible –pure marketing on behalf of the hereafter.

Premiere 5-12-2005, 21.00h, Votivkino, Währingerstrasse 12, 1090 Vienna
